Hi, I'm Ryan

I am passionate about co-creating a safe and authentic space and I also share some of my lived experiences to support our therapeutic relationship. Therapy is client-centered and has the capacity to change the therapist and the client together. At the heart of this transformation is shared vulnerability, spontaneity and authentic connection.

I am a calm, compassionate and empathic practitioner. I am also a parent (two teenage children 15, 18), partner, son, surfer, and motorcyclist and work as school counsellor during business hours. I am a Zen student who meditates regularly, and love exploring ancient wisdom in the modern world.

Prior to being a counsellor/psychologist I was a high school music teacher and enjoyed connecting with adolescents and their families in findings ways to make learning meaningful and life changing. I am from a performing arts background and am keen to draw on the experiences and the knowledge I have gained in these areas to support and empower my clients.

My Approach

I work with clients from all backgrounds and have extensive experience working with adults, adolescents and children. Primary therapies relate to mindfulness-based approaches (i.e., non-judgmental awareness and exploration of thoughts and feelings), including the practice of self-compassion. I also draw on a wide range of trauma-informed therapeutic approaches (e.g., relational psychoanalysis, narrative therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and acceptance commitment therapy among others).
